Two shows in Davis this weekend!

Hi folks,

I will be showing my art in two different places in Davis this weekend.

Friday 6:30-9:00 at the Palm Court Hotel for the 2nd Friday art walk I will be showing LED and firepit sculptures in the hotel lobby. 234 D St Davis

Friday, Saturday and Sunday – I will be showing a couple of pieces in the Art Gallery at the Davis Whole Earth Festival at the Quad on Campus. The festival runs 10-6pm everyday. I don’t have a booth there just a couple of pieces in the art gallery!

What Happens in Vegas stays in Vegas…but wait.

Yes we know what they say about Vegas but in this case I’m taking home a lot from my weekend in Vegas and I’m going to blab about it! It was a last minute trip following a grueling couple of weeks in my life. But I had a chance to meet with a potential high profile client to talk about a project and I decided to jump on the chance. At the same time there was a Glass Conference and a torch enameling class that I wanted to take. I quickly found a place to stay with a friend’s sister, and booked a flight. My hosts were wonderful people and they cooked all my meals and we talked all night about every topic in the world.

On Saturday I went to my enameling class at the glass expo and I was in heaven all day! We used small torches to heat up the metal and then dipped the hot metal in enamel which is powdered glass, the glass melts onto the metal and creates a beautiful glossy finish. I made several beads, and small copper pieces show below. I had a couple of mishaps with burns and getting used to the torch… for a girl that plays with hot metal all the time you would think that I would stay away from the hot stuff! My goal with this is to add enameled pieces to bigger sculptures for a different element… and I love playing with the torch! Who knows I might even make some jewelry pieces. Then I went to the exhibit hall and got a bunch more goodies to add to my enameling collection.

Then on Sunday morning I went to my meeting at this potential client. It was an amazing property with over 100 acres of lush trees and a beautiful lagoon pool. I may be creating a large lotus flower that will be place about where the large fern is below. As the project progresses I will keep you posted with more details!

Then later in the afternoon I went to see a client that I had never met in person. About a year ago I did a sculpture for her and we only talked on the phone and sent photos back and forth on the project. The sculpture was shipped to Vegas so I never got to see it installed. She had a beautiful home with a large sculpture garden in the front of the house. I was honored that this sculpture became part of her collection.

So in about two short days I won so much and I didn’t even drop a coin into a slot machine!

Fire Tree Fire Pit by Kristen Hoard

Made with recycled steel and copper tubing. This little fire tree hides a small propane tank in the trunk of the tree. It will keep you warm around the camp fire or makes a great little backyard firepit!

I love that being an artist allows me to express myselfnin so many ways. I love having my hair become a cascading kaleidascope of color!

This is Wall of Flame, an outdoor fire pit made of over 70 hand bent rods. I runs off of propane and gives off a great amount of heat.

This piece lives at 2318 K. Street at R U Tan… it is right next to Rick’s Desert Diner. This piece was commissioned by Thomas Roth and Clare Bailey for the building. It is the largest outdoor sculpture I have made at over 12 feet tall. It features recycled metal and 12 feet of color changing LEDs it has a remote control with 11 different states.

Hmmm the start of a very fun project begins… whats it gonna be?

Mouse Trap Heart Wall Art Sold

This little cutie was shipped off to San Jose yesterday for a Valentine’s day present. This was one of the heart pieces I made for the 20/20 show last May. I will miss this little bugger… its a ceramic heart on metal backing with resin holding the mouse trap on. Love this one!
